Mules used by RAF Wing Cmdr. Atcherley to clear Bardufoss?
Does anyone know where the 200 mules used by the RAF to clear snow off the runways of the airbase at Bardufoss came from?
I assume they came from England or Scotland by ship, but I can't find anything to confirm that. Could they have come from the French ski troops or local farmers?
Thanks for any specifics on this topic. If they came by ship from England, it must have been some chore to get them ashore and up to the base.
They surely didn't come to England when the Allies sailed away from Narvik in June.

I don't know from where the mules came, or if it really was mules or horses. One thing is certain. Appart from an odd mule here or there, there was no domestic mules in Norway in 1940.

Mules.
There is some info about mules in the book " Alta bataljon 1940". In this book is it a little story about a dead French mule in a river. So there have been mules in Narvik and North Norway in 1940, how many of them, who knows?

Yes, the French troops at Narvik had mules. Even photos of mules in the book Narvik 1940.
