1. Marineersatzabteilung Hovedøya / Oslo 1944–1945
Hello,
I am searching for information about the island Hovedøya / Oslo (end 1944 – begin 1945).
My information is that there was the 1. Marineersatzabteilung (1944 – 1945). In the time before, there has been maybee a german police-station. But this is not shure. Doe you have more information?
Thanks and greetings from
Ulrich

Hovedöia
Your question interests me. Even Dutch ships sailed in this trade.
When Finland in September 1944 broke with Germany there were about 40 Finnish ships in Norway, they were sized by the Germans and the crews were given a choice; concentration camp or keep on sailing for Germany. A few choose the later alternative.
A few crews managed to highjack their ships and sail to Sweden, but most of them were internated in Norway (On Hovedöia) and transported to Germany. Around 35% of tem lost their lives.
About 120 men and women returned to Finland after many hardships.
My father vas on of tee survivors and I’m making a documentary a both this events. I don’t like too publish my material officially jet but if you like I can send it to you on your private mail.
