Interesting photo - Totenkopf and Norwegian soldiers
This is a quite interesting photo. Specially if the writings on the back is correct. (doubt it a bit)
"Kirkenes July 1940 - Norwegian soldiers"
If this is correct, date and time - these two guys could have been som of the Norwegian soldiers who guarded the border with Russia.

Was this the same unit that where so bady crushed in Salla, Finland? If so, very few of these men would ever return to Germany.

Thats correct. The result of sending poorly trained soldier in battle. Later the unit was refitted and better trained. It served with honor later. One of the few Waffen SS units that was not accused of war crimes

Hello!
True, however the term "6. Geb. Div Nord" first came in 43. When the battles at Salla took place, the unit designation was "Kampfgruppe Nord".

The picture is taken in front of the old kaserne of "Garnisonen i Sør-Varanger".During escavations here in 2005 we found many remains from both the norwegians and the germans. On october the 25.1944 these buildings were burned down.I know the site and if anybody is interested I can take photo and show you how it looks today.
