No. 5 (Norwegian) Troop - 10 Interallied Cdo
Hello Everyone,
I am new to the site/forum and am trying to find out information about the Norwegians who were killed in The Netherlands during WW2. Online I can find next to nothing. Even information about No. 5 troop is rare. Let alone any other units that might have existed.
Does anybody know of any sources I can use for the involvement of the Norwegians in Holland? I know they saw action at Walcheren and Kapelsche Veer, but I have also names of two Norwegians who were apparently with 2 SAS and killed on 15-16 April 1944 in Central Holland.
Does anybody know Norwegians were in the SAS? Or if No. 5 troop were involved in other actions besides Walcheren and Kapelsche Veer?
Any information would be more than helpful. If needed I can supply some names.
Thanks in advance,
Stevin

No.5 Troop - 10 Inter-Allied Commando
Hello there,
The following may be of some use in your research:
No.10 Inter-Allied Commando 1940-45: Britain's Secret Commando (Elite) (Paperback)
by Nick Van Der Bijl (Author), Robert Chapman (Illustrator) This book is available in most good bookshops and of course at www.amazon.co.uk
The following websites are also useful, but apologies if you already know about them:
http://home.online.no/~gestrom/history/n5t10frm.htm
http://www.wartimememories.co.uk/allied/commandos.html
http://www.arkivverket.no/arkivverket/publikasjoner/nett/handbok-ra/forsvaret/skott-inter.html
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/
The National Archives would be a good place to start a search in the UK. Type in 10 commando in to the search catalogue and you will see there is a file. You can request this to be copied online and sent to your postal address, but it can be expensive if the file is large. Another useful search base would be the Oslo Archives - http://www.arkivverket.no/english/
Kind regards,
Bob

Re: No. 5 (Norwegian) Troop - 10 Interallied Cdo
Hi Bob,
Many thanks for the links. Some I knew, others not. The Norwegian National Archives seems the first port of call, but my lack of Norwegian will prevent me. Kew is more likely.
However, reading that No.5 was taken off the line, basically, after Kapelsche Veer, I wonder if the men I am looking for were with No. 5. We are talking April 1945, when No. 5 was already back in the UK. Maybe instead they were with SAS.
The search continues.
Thanks again. Very much appreciated.

Update; I just got some information in and these chaps were NOT SAS or No.5 but pilots from 332 Sqn!
I was barking up a whole different tree.
Thanks all for helping out.

Stevin
